Hotter summers are here, and the City of Shoreline wants to help you stay cool. Energize Shoreline is offering free workshops in the summer of 2025 to help residents learn about heat pumps — energy-efficient systems that heat, cool, filter, and dehumidify your home. We connect you with local professionals, offer financial incentives, and provide guidance on how to install your new heat pump system.

Shoreline residents, schools, churches, and businesses can receive free trees through Communi-trees — the City’s tree giveaway and planting program! When you sign up for Communi-trees, you get:

• Up to 3 trees per property
• Help picking the right tree for your space
• Planting supplies
• Training on tree planting and care
• Ongoing care tips and reminders

We offer grants up to $5,000 per application to individuals, community groups, schools, churches, and business owners for projects that benefit our environment and community.

We offer education, resources, and financial assistance to help Shoreline businesses reduce waste. This includes programs around the:

• City's law that requires service ware be reusable and compostable
• State's Organics Management Laws that require businesses to separate their food and yard waste from their garbage

Recycling can be challenging, especially at large apartment or condo properties. The City of Shoreline, in partnership with Recology, can help property managers and renters recycle better and compost more.  

We offer education, support to address contamination, specialty recycling programs for batteries and plastic bags, free compost service for eligible properties, and free composting and recycling supplies for tenants.

We provide several free drop-off sites to recycle household batteries, including: AA, AAA, AAAA, C, D, 9V, and button batteries.
