The City of Shoreline is currently going through a set of pre-construction tasks in preparation for construction. Once these tasks are complete, we will send notices to residents letting them know of the construction schedule. Shortly after that, the contractor will begin mobilization and construction.

Project Overview 

This project will construct a new sidewalk, stormwater system, and bike lane on 8th Avenue NW between NW Richmond Beach Road and NW 180th Street, near the north side of Sunset Park. The sidewalk and bike lane will be built on the east side of the street.  Storm water catch basins will be installed at the curb and gutter of the new sidewalk, while the storm pipe will be located near the center of the roadway to provide clearance from the existing water main. This is required to reduce the risk of contamination of the water main. Moving the location of the new storm pipe also provides clearance from the existing trees along the east side of the corridor, which will reduce the risk of root impacts during trench excavation. SPU will be making minor improvements to the water main during the construction of the sidewalks.

This project is part of the 2018 voter-approved effort to build and repair sidewalks throughout Shoreline.

Project improvements include:

  • Pedestrian facilities with curbs and gutters
  • Bicycle facilities
  • Curb ramps
  • Drainage improvements

100% Design

The City went through 90% and 100% design reviews and sent all comments to KPFF Engineering for review. After the changes were incorporated into the plan set, the package was put out to solicit bids. The bid opening was on July 9th, 2025 at City Hall, and the construction contract was awarded to the lowest bidder, Interwest Construction, Inc. The 100% pavement design plans are available for review. 

Project Timeline

  • Construction: Fall 2025

Tree Impacts

Preliminary Arborist Survey

Impacted trees are tag numbers 2-16, 17, 19, 20 and 28 in the arborist survey. They include 17 Japanese flowering cherries in very poor to fair condition, one Japanese maple in good condition, and one Douglas fir in fair condition.

It has been our goal to avoid impacting trees for this project, but the need to remove some trees became clear as we developed the design.  During construction, we plan to have an arborist onsite when excavating around trees so that care is taken as to not damage tree roots.  We plan to plant back 22 number of trees in the amenity zones (planting strips).
