Project Overview and History

The City received a total of $2 million in Sound Transit Access Funds to spend on pedestrian improvements in the vicinity of the Sound Transit Shoreline South/148th Station. Pedestrian improvements on 1st Avenue NE were identified as the top priority for these Access Funds.

1st Avenue NE is a key access point to the light rail station connecting to/from the 145th Street corridor, the future 148th Street Non-Motorized Bridge (a pedestrian/bicycle bridge that will span I-5 at approximately 148th Street with direct access to the light rail station), and a bicycle network.

Shoreline Council approved higher density zoning in the station area in September 2016. As a result, redevelopment is underway with more anticipated in the near future. These new developments add sidewalk improvements on their properties as part of their permitting conditions.

The City of Shoreline used the $2 million in Sound Transit funding to help fill in gaps to provide pedestrian improvements along 1st Avenue NE. The project included design and construction of concrete sidewalk, on one side of the street between N 145th Street and N 155th Street.
