The City of Shoreline is pleased to offer opportunities for the donation of a new or refurbished commemorative park bench to honor a person or an event. Please review the guidance below before submitting an application.

Location

Due to future master planning efforts and saturation issues, commemorative park benches are currently being considered only at Kruckeberg Botanic Garden, Echo Lake,  James Keough,  Richmond Highlands, Twin Ponds, and Shoreview Dog Parks. As construction is completed on the Parks Bond Projects, opportunities for donation of commemorative park benches will become available at Briarcrest, Brugger’s Bog, and Hillwood Parks.

The City may elect to limit or exclude any of these parks from consideration if the location reaches a saturation point or the amenity does not fit the existing conditions and needs of the site. The Parks, Fleet and Facilities Manager is the final decision-maker regarding acceptance, placement, and installation.

Cost and Schedule

The cost of a new commemorative bench, including the plaque with inscription, freight, concrete pad, and installation is $3,500.00. Benches require a lead time of eight to ten weeks for manufacturing and shipping. The typical installation period is two to four months as all amenities are installed by park maintenance staff only when scheduling and staff allows. Payment in the form of a check or money order must be received before an order is placed.

Bench and Plaque

The City will purchase the benches and plaques to maintain consistency throughout the parks and to guarantee quality. In most cases the commemorative bench is a dark, powder-coated black metal and approximately six feet long. The plaque, dark with bronze lettering, is 2 inches by 10 inches and can hold up to three lines of text. The plaque is centered on the bench’s upper back support.

Warranty

If the commemorative bench or any other amenity is damaged for any reason, repair or replacement is guaranteed by the City of Shoreline for 10 years from the date of purchase. After 10 years the donation is available for renewal at the cost of a new donation with the first right of refusal given to the original donor. If the original donor decides not to renew or cannot be reached, the donated bench or amenity may be removed or rededicated at any time.

Application

The application process begins by submitting a completed application (see link below). When your application has been received you will be contacted by a member of staff who will confirm your application status and work with you to complete the process.
