Apartment Renters: There's A New Way to Fight Food Waste!

Post Date:March 31, 2026 3:23 pm

Do you live in an apartment? A condo? Are you tired of smelly food scraps? Want to help keep food out of landfills? Join King County's free food waste study that makes food scrap collection clean, easy and odor-free - even in your apartment.

Through a limited time pilot program, King County is providing FREE Mill home composting devices that dry, shrink, and de-stink kitchen food scraps. The devices turn scraps into grounds that will then be sent to a facility in nearby Mukilteo, WA to feed chickens! Joining the pilot is entirely free, and participants have the option to either return or purchase the device after the pilot ends in October 2026. Open to Shoreline residents at eligible apartment and condo properties while supplies last.
