Map Your Neighborhood (MYN) is a program designed to help neighborhoods prepare for disasters and is offered through the Emergency Management office. The program is based on neighborhoods working together as a team. Cohesive neighborhoods have been proven to have multiple health, safety, and quality-of-life benefits.

We guide you through the process as your team identifies the skills and equipment each neighbor has that are useful in an effective disaster response. You'll create a neighborhood map identifying the locations of natural gas and propane tanks, as well as a contact list that helps identify those with specific needs such as elderly, disabled, or children who may be home alone during certain hours of the day.

To get started, follow these steps:

  • Choose a home/host willing to hold a “mapping” event for the immediate block (15-20 homes maximum)
  • Request a copy of the Map Your Neighborhood 90-minute DVD from the City of Shoreline
  • View the interactive DVD with each participant filling out their own Ready Packet that is also provided by the City
  • At the end of the night, your neighborhood will be prepared for an emergency!
