1% For the Arts:
The 1% for the Arts public art piece, "Raintree" by artist Kristin Tollefson was installed at Cromwell Park. The following is a description of her piece in her own words:
"Located in the center of Cromwell Park within the lowest part of the landscaped stormwater runoff area, Raintree honors the settings and history of the site. The sculpture takes its inspiration from the storm water and bog characteristics of the ground plane environment, while addressing rain as the source of the water. This abstracted tree form with a visible root ball suggests the flow and growth of vein patterns that are found in both plants and water.  Raintree is fabricated out of metal highlighted with blue glass beads, durable materials that will respond to many kinds of ambient light."

Overview & History
In May 2006, Shoreline voters approved a bond issue to acquire park property and improve parks throughout the community. One element of the bond was to make recreational improvements to Cromwell Park. In addition, the Surface Water Utility needed to make improvements to the storm system in the area surrounding the park. Jointly funded by both the Parks Bond Levy and the Surface Water Utility, this project will create much needed recreational and storm water improvements. Storm water improvements will include creating storm water detention, water quality treatment, and wetland areas in the park. Recreational improvements will include installing an irrigated sports field, walking paths/trails, play equipment, natural area enhancements, signage, landscaping, picnic facilities, benches and drinking fountains.

Cromwell Park is located in the central portion of the City of Shoreline in the Meridian Park neighborhood. The neighborhood surrounding the park consists primarily of single-family homes.  The King County District Court building is located on the northwest boundary of the park.
