Human Services

Human Services promotes individual and community well being by increasing self-sufficiency, reducing the negative impact of adverse life events, and helping people achieve their full potential.

The City may employ one or more of the roles below, often with the assistance of partner agencies, organizations and community groups, to meet the human service needs of the community.

  • Document and analyze the extent to which the needs of low and moderate income residents are being met.
  • Demonstrate new approaches to solving problems.
  • Inform and educate the public and social and health problems affecting our community.
  • Help those affected to develop solutions and plans for action.
  • Advocate for the needs of City residents with regional agencies and other levels of government.
  • Fund Human Services using General Fund and Community Block Grant Funding (CDBG).  The City partially funds agencies on a biennial basis to provide essential services to Shoreline residents. Annually the City also allocates CDBG funding for capital projects. In making funding decisions the City relies on the advice of an Ad-hoc Allocations Committee.
