Susan Chang was elected to the Shoreline City Council in 2017. Her term expires December 31, 2021.
Susan served on Shoreline's Planning Commission from 2016 to 2017.
Susan is a licensed civil engineer and currently supervises the Geotechnical Engineering Review group for the City of Seattle Dept. of Construction and Inspections. She previously worked as an Assistant Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at WSU-Pullman and for geotechnical consulting firms in Seattle and Oakland, CA.
Susan grew up in suburban Maryland, northern Florida, and the San Francisco Bay Area, completing her B.S in Civil Engineering, M.S. in Geotechnical Engineering, and Ph.D. in Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering from UC Berkeley in 1989, 1990 and 1996. She and her husband, Russ, moved to Seattle's Capital Hill in 1999 and to Richmond Beach in 2009.
Susan served a two-year term on the Board of the Richmond Beach Community Association. For three years, she was the "Cookie Mom" for her daughter's Girl Scout Troop and has served as team manager for several years for both her son's and daughter's select soccer teams. Susan is an avid vegetable gardener, cook, and knitter.
